Moldovan capital hosts unveiling of commemorative plaque to Polish descent scientist

Chisinau, 31 March /MOLDPRES/-A commemorative stone to mark the 95th year since the birth of the Moldovan academician of Polish descent, founder of the Moldovan school of crystallography, Tadeusz Malinowski, was organized in Chisinau today. The event took place within the Moldovan-Polish intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation, held in Chisinau on 30-31 March.
The unveiling ceremony was held at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences, where the famous scientist had worked for more years.
Attending the event was the chairman of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences, Gheorghe Duca, the state secretary of the Polish Development Ministry, Radoslaw Domagalski-Labedzki, Polish Ambassador in Chisinau Artur Michalski, diplomats, state officials, scientists and art people.
During his speech, Duca said Tadeusz Malinowski had been his teacher at the Moldovan State University.
“Tadeusz Malinowski was a great personality. He a was a true encyclopedist. He knew more European languages and his Romanian was perfect. Besides science, he was also interested in culture. He also wrote the “Taina Luceafarului” (The Mystery of the Evening Star) poem. Though he came to Moldova from Poland, he had always promoted the Romanian language and the history of our nation,” Duca noted.
For his part, Radoslaw Domagalski-Labedzki touched upon Moldovan-Polish ties, praising their enhanced development over the past few years. At the same time, the Polish official emphasized that Poland was taking care of its fellow countrymen, who willingly or unwillingly had to leave the country, like Malinowski.
Tadeusz Malinowski (1921-1996) was an illustrious physicist. He founded the Moldovan school of crystallography, inspired and organized the revival of the Polish Diaspora in Moldova.
