Chisinau, 1 April /MOLDPRES/-Experts of the National Agency for Regulation of Nuclear and Radiological Activities, with the support of the Bureau for Reintegration have recently paid a working visit to the power station from Destrovsk city, also known as Kuchurgan power station., in order to assess the radiation safety level, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.
As a result of the visit, 1,052 tonnes of nuclear material was evacuated. The radioactive sources were safely transported and stored at a specialized deposit, in order to avoid the pollution of the environment by radiation elements.
Such actions are being taken in the context of the government’s efforts to promote systematic confidence consolidating measures and ways to improve environment and life conditions of residents on both sides of Dniester banks. Thus, more than 3,000 radiological objects were evacuated from the breakaway Transnistrian region in 2013-3016. This helped significantly reduce the risk of radiological contamination in the region, along with public health threats.
In this context, Moldovan authorities thank experts of institutions in charge, international partners and especially, the OSCE mission to Moldova, for their participation and contribution to the development of the above-mentioned activities.
