Moldovan army sappers liquidate 15 explosive objects in Kosovo

Chisinau, 5 April /MOLDPRES/ - A group sappers of the fourth National Army contingent, detached to the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, started the demining operations in the area of responsibility, along with sappers from the USA, Switzerland and Ukraine within the Kosovo Security Forces. The actions are taking place within the Mine Action Programs for 2016.
According to commander of the National Army contingent, lieutenant-colonel Ruslan Cojocaru, on 4 April, when the International Day of Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action is marked, Moldovan sappers destroyed 15 explosive objects discovered on the territory of the Kosovo region.
Cojocaru specified that, at the same time, Moldovan infantrymen had carried out missions of combined patrolling (by vehicles and by foot), setting observation, service posts at checkpoints, as well as the guard of Camp Vilaggio Italia from the Pech settlement. Also, the servicemen ensured the guard and defence of the Visoki Decane Monastery – an object with special status within the competence of the Multinational Force West.
The KFOR contingent is made up of 41 servicemen, of whom 33 infantrymen, seven sappers and one staff officer.
