Moldovan parliament to create additional mechanism of communication with Transnistrian region

Chisinau, 6 April /MOLDPRES/- The parliament is willing to create an additional channel of communication with the Transnistrian region. Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu made the statement at a meeting with the delegation of mediators and observers in the five plus two format, headed by Special Representative of OSCE Chairman-in-Office Cord Meier-Klodt, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Candu announced that the parliament is to set up an internal mechanism of communication with negotiators responsible for the Transnistrian settlement process, including for coordinating the actions with government.
The speaker said the launch of dialogue at the level of parliament between Chisinau and Tiraspol, supported by OSCE would ensure political support for implementing solutions identified within negotiations.
“There is political will in Chisinau to relaunch negotiations in the five plus two format, and parliamentary support will ensure political support for getting concrete results. We want to regain the trust and advance negotiations on important issues for citizens, such as: recognition of diplomas, humanitarian issues, communication lines interconnection and expanding mobile emergency services.
Attending the event were also the head of parliamentary delegation to OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Sergiu Sirbu, the head of the judicial commission for rules and immunities, Raisa Apolschi, the head of the commission for national security, defence and public order, Veaceslav Untila, and the chief of the commission for human rights and interethnic relations Vladimir Turcan.
The delegation of mediators and observers in the five plus two format is on a three-day visit to Moldova. It is made up of U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Bridget Brink, Director-General for Europe and Central Asia in the European External Action Service Thomas Mayr-Harting, Representative of Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Gubarev and Representative of Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Valery Zhovtenko.
