Moldovan PM opts for resuming negotiations in five plus two format as soon as possible

Chisinau, 6 April /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip met a delegation of mediators and observers in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process on 5 April, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The premier reiterated the Moldovan authorities’ firm determination to advance in the negotiations on the Transnistrian conflict settlement. In this context, Filip opted for resuming as soon as possible of negotiations in the five plus two format and voiced confidence that the conflict should be solved at political level by elaborating a special legal status for the Transnistrian region, by observing sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova. “It is important that the future state should be viable and streamlined to democratic reforms and modernization”, he said.
The premier also pointed out that the Moldovan authorities would further promote an open policy in relation to residents and economic agents from the Transnistrian region in order to ensure public service delivery necessary for residents in the region, and at the same time, they would meet obligations to the rights and fundamental freedoms of citizens in all regions of the country.
For their part, the representatives of mediators and observers in the Transnistrian conflict settlement highlighted the importance for organizing in the near future of a new round of negotiations in the five plus two format, boosting the direct dialogue between the political representatives of Chisinau and Tiraspol, as well as within the working groups on confidence building measures. The dialogue partners expressed willingness to contribute to advancing the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, and the visit is further confirmation in this respect.
The delegation of representatives of mediators and observers in the Transnistrian conflict settlement is on a three-day visit to Moldova. It is made up of Special Representative of OSCE Chairman-in-Office for Transnistrian settlement Cord Meier-Klodt, Representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Gubarev, Representative of Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Valery Jovtenco, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Bridget Brink, Director-general for Europe and Central Asia in European External Action Service Thomas Mayr-Harting.
