Moldovan young people obtain EU-financed business grants

Chisinau, 7 April /MOLDPRES/-An amount of 30 young people from both banks of Dniester River obtained European grants accounting for up to 13,500 euros, to create their own businesses.

Grants were offered via “Support to Confidence Building Measures“ programme, financed by the EU and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

“Helping active youth from both sides of Dniester River, who had the courage to start their own businesses, is a priority for the EU. I am very glad to discover these entrepreneurs, which businesses will contribute to an even tighter cooperation and confidence-building process along Dniester River,” the head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Pirkka Tapiola said.

Beneficiaries were selected through contest. Young people decided to develop their entrepreneurial activity in dental care, car testing and repair, quail breeding, as well as berry an vegetable farming. All these businesses will create 160 new jobs.    

“The support programme for young entrepreneurs from both banks of Dniester is at its second stage. Its results have been successful so far, as 40 young people started their business in 2014 and created over 200 new jobs. Projects in 2016 are promising as well, and may offer new opportunities for the settlements on both banks of Dniester,” UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Moldova Narine Sahakyan said.

The “Creation of Job Opportunities through Business Support for Youth in the Transnistrian region and the Security Zone” project is carried out within the “Support to Confidence Building Measures “ programme, in partnership with Business Consulting Institute and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry from Tiraspol. Its budget accounts for 10 million euros and is financed by the EU.
