Moldovan parliament appoints new ombudsman for protection of children's rights

Chisinau, 8 April /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today appointed Maia Banarescu ombudsperson for protection of children’s rights.
Maia Banarescu is 53 years old and has a legal work experience of 17 years. So far, she has acted as head of the human rights and external cooperation department at the Supreme Court of Justice.
Also at the today parliament meeting, Maia Banarescu took the oath for holding the new office.
Under the legislation, the ombudsperson contributes to defending the human rights and freedoms by preventing their violation, monitoring and reporting the way the fundamental human rights and freedoms are observed nationally.
The position of ombudsperson for the protection of children’s rights is held for a period of seven years, and the mandate begins on the date of taking the oath by the candidate.
