Chisinau, 11 April /MOLDPRES/ - The Embassy of Germany in Moldova launched a campaign titled, German? Of Course!, on promotion of the German language at the Lyceum of Modern Languages and Management from Chisinau today.

Attending the event was German Ambassador to Moldova Ulrike Knotz, Deputy Education Minister Elena Cernei, teachers, parents and pupils.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, Ambassador Ulrike Knotz said that this campaign would be organised in more than 30 schools from all over Moldova.

According to the diplomat, the campaign’s goal is to arouse the interest of Moldovan pupils and their parents in studying the German language. To this end, the Bucharest-based Goethe Institute trained 20 teachers, who will teach pupils exercises of linguistic animation. They will also present children the German language through games.

In her speech, Deputy Education Minister Elena Cernei stressed that the knowledge of a language of a country from the European Union’s space was a great advantage for pupils and parents. “Germany gave the universal culture more titans,” the deputy minister said.

The headmaster of the Lyceum of Modern Languages and Management, Zaharia Arama, noted that the pupils of this school were studying German from the first form and the German or French language starting from the third form.

Today, the campaign’s team went to the Prometeu lyceum. On the days to come, the tour will continue with visits at schools from Moldova – the minibus will go to Comrat, Balti, Edinet, etc.

Over 100 million people speak the German language outside the German linguistic area. About 8,000 pupils study German in Moldova.
