Moldovan parliament adopts new law on notaries’ activity

Chisinau, 14 April /MOLDPRES/-The parliament today adopted a law on the notaries’ activity with the vote of 84 MPs.
The document is part of the strategy for the reformation of the justice sector and brings more innovations, including an extended probation term for notaries from 12 to 18 months and the new term of “trainee notary”.
“At the end of their studies, young notaries will give an exam in order to qualify and apply for vacant positions. Their activity license shall be issued by the Justice Ministry within 15 days upon submitting the application, at a 450-lei fee,” the draft reads.
The law also provides for the creation of the Notary Chamber, which is a new regulation body in the field. According to the law, a general assembly of the notaries will also be established, along with a commission on ethics and a deontological code.
The creation of a Credibility Fund made of the notaries’ contributions, is also one of the innovations. It will be managed by an administration board established within the Notary Chamber.
The draft law does not provide for the allotment of funds from the budget. It shall enter into force six months after its publication date in Moldova’s Official Journal.
