Moldovan parliament speaker attends event on marking 1,050th anniversary of Poland's Christianization

Chisinau, 15 April /MOLDPRES/ - Several hundreds of Polish officials brought together in Poznan today to celebrate, along with the Polish nation, the 1,050th anniversary of the country’s Christianization. Attending the event was also Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.      

In a solemn festive atmosphere, Poland’s President Andrzej Duda referred, in his speech, to solidarity and tolerance, importance of the Christian values for the development of the Polish nation and perpetuation of the next generations’ attachment to these values.

At the event, Speaker Andrian Candu had discussions with Polish President Andrzej Duda, Marshal of Polish Sejm Marek Kuchciński, Vice President of the German Bundestag Johannes Singhammer.  

During discussions with Polish officials, Candu tackled subjects on strengthening the bilateral relations on all dimensions, including at inter-parliamentary level. The Moldovan parliament speaker conveyed congratulations to the Polish citizens and thanked the authorities of Poland for the constant political and economic support provided to Moldova.   

Andrian Candu also touched upon the re-launch of the cooperation on the platform of Moldova-Poland Parliamentary Assembly, for the transfer of expertise and good practices in approximating the Moldovan legislation to the EU acquis. In this context, the marshal of the Polish Sejm gave assurances that “Poland and, in particular, the Polish parliament is willing to further back Moldova more than so far.”     

The officials also discussed Poland’s initiatives on supporting states of the region, including Moldova, through regional forums, which Poland will organise on the next period and to which Moldova was invited to take part.   

Also today, Andrian Candu and Vice President of the German Bundestag Johannes Singhammer discussed the boosting of the inter-parliamentary dialogue between the legislative bodies of the two countries. In this context, the officials referred to Germany’s role within the OSCE chairmanship-in-office and efforts made till present to resume the debates within the five-plus-two format. The German official said that his country would back in continuation Moldova’s modernisation, in order to ensure stability, security and well-being in the region.
