Chisinau, 18 April /MOLDPRES/- The Constitutional Court (CCM) today approved a draft law on amending the Constitution, which provides for excluding parliamentary immunity. The draft is to be submitted to parliament for consideration.
The legislative initiative was developed by a group of 39 MPs of the parliamentary majority. The representatives of the opposition backed the initiative, yet, they refused to sign it.
The authors of the draft law proposed to exclude the paragraph 3 of the Article 70 of the Constitution, which stipulates that “the MP cannot be detained, arrested, searched, except for the cases of flagrant offense, or brought to trial without the consent of parliament, after his/her hearing”.
Also, CCM approved a draft law on the inclusion in the Constitution of a chapter on ombudsman's work.
Both approvals are final and cannot be subject to any appeal. They enter into force on the date of adoption and are published in the Official Journal of Moldova (Monitorul Oficial).
