Germany to further back Moldova’s reforms, EU integration course

Chisinau, 18 April /MOLDPRES/-Prime Minister Pavel Filip held a meeting with Parliamentary State Secretary to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Hans-Joachim Fuchtel today, the government’s communication and press relations department has reported.

The officials discussed the Moldovan-German bilateral partnership in the economy and infrastructure sectors, as well as the possibility to provide Moldova with assistance in various fields.

Filip thanked Germany for its openness and support for Moldova’s EU integration course, noting that this meeting aims to fortify bilateral ties. “I praise the fact that Moldova continues to be on the list of states that receive assistance from the German government. Governance and economic development are among the main cooperation areas. To this effect, a new round of negotiations on the Moldovan-German cooperation framework will be organized as soon as possible,” the prime minister emphasized.

The Moldovan prime minister also touched upon the important role Germany plays in the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. “I voice my gratitude for Germany's constant support in the Transnistrian conflict’s settlement and we are further counting on it, in the context of Germany's chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe,” Filip said.

For his part, Fuchtel said Germany was one of the first states to recognize Moldova’s independence and would further back the promotion of reforms for Moldova’s EU integration. He also confirmed Germany’s availability to offer Moldova support and expertise in various sectors.

During the meeting, the officials tackled the reforms Moldova is currently implementing in the justice sector, as well as its efforts to fight corruption, improve the situation in the banking system, enforce the public administration reform and restore ties with its foreign partners.
