Foreign minister of Moldova, UK official tacle opportunities of boosting Moldovan-British political dialogue

Chisinau, 18 April /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur today received Permanent Under-Secretary at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Head of the Diplomatic Service of the United Kingdom, Sir. Simon McDonald, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.  

The two officials discussed opportunities of boosting the bilateral political dialogue and cooperation in diverse sectors of common interest, including within development assistance programmes.    

The Moldovan minister referred to priority goals and challenges faced by the government of Moldova in terms of implementing the agenda of reforms provided for the in the Association Agreement with the European Union and measures undertaken to improve the social and economic situation in Moldova.    

Andrei Galbur thanked for the support provided by the UK Government to implement reforms and important development projects, in particular, the ones on justice reform and good governance, improving the business climate, fiscal system’s reform, modernising the banking and energy systems, etc. The Moldovan foreign minister highlighted the significance of the backing provided to promote confidence building measures, in the context of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process.    

For his part, the head of British Diplomatic Service confirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to further support the reforms carried out by the Moldovan authorities, as well as efforts to settle the Transnistrian problem within the five-plus-two negotiations.
