Moldovan deputy premier, German MP discuss Transnistrian settlement

Chisinau, 18 April /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan has received a German delegation led by a Bundestag MP Fritz Felgentreu, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.
The deputy prime minister emphasized the contribution of Germany to Moldova’s democratization, sustainable friendship relations between the two states and the constructive character of the Moldovan-German partnership.
The discussions were focused on the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and measures to consolidate trust between the two banks of Dniester.
Gheorghe Balan reviewed the present situation and prospects within the negotiating process. The sides stressed the need to continue, without preconditions, the five-plus-two talks and boost the dialogue within all current platforms.
The deputy PM highlighted the government’s commitment to back the residents from Moldova’s Transnistrian region by extending single spaces to the region, promoting interaction between the business communities, contribution to deepening the trade relations with EU and continuous promotion of the confidence building measures. Balan also set the concrete actions the cabinet has lately undertaken to this end.
Fritz Felgentreu thanked the deputy prime minister for the presented news. He assured that Germany would further back efforts to settle the Transnistrian conflict, by providing the needed support, including as regards the forthcoming organisation of a yearly conference in the field of strengthening confidence between the two banks of Dniester.
In the end of the meeting, Gheorghe Balan thanked the German side for the constant political support provided to Moldova, including in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, especially on the period of Germany exercising the OSCE chairmanship in 2016.
