Moldovan speaker, German MP discuss EU integration reforms

Chisinau, 19 April /MOLDPRES/-Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu and the head of the Moldovan-German forum in Germany’s Bundestag, MP Fritz Felgentreu discussed Moldova’s progresses and arrears in the promotion of reforms and EU integration, the parliament’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The sides focused on Moldova’s social-political and economic development, as well as on reforms in the justice, prosecution, corruption, banking, business, investment and energy sectors.
“The agenda of reforms as well as the commitments of the Moldovan government and parliament, stipulated in a road map, aim to bring stability into the country and restore the confidence of its citizens and development partners. We are ready to take concrete actions and prove that we can improve things. Resuming talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and negotiating an agreement for Moldova is our priority. We hope our ties with IMF will progress,” Candu noted.
The speaker also touched upon the legislative packages the Moldovan parliament had recently voted to consolidate democratic institutions. He said the prosecution reform should be finalized soon, through the amendment of the Constitution.
Candu said Moldovan authorities were waiting for the recommendations of the experts of the EU legal mission, looking forward to putting them into practice.
“The expert mission has already carried out several reports. We are waiting to see the rest of them, in order to have a clear picture of all the monitored institutions,” Candu noted.
The officials also broached the need for a more active involvement of the civil society in the parliament's activity and the legislative process, settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and the activity of the parliamentary working group with the participation of the Popular Assembly of the Gagauz Autonomous Territorial Unit.
The head of the Moldovan-German forum encouraged the continuation of reforms in Moldova. Felgentreu welcomed the road map signed by the parliament and government, which provides for the main actions to be taken to boost up reforms. “I would like to see the positive effects of the reforms you have started and actions provided in your road map, during our next visits to Moldova,” the German MP said.
