Moldovan premier gives favour to government-local authorities' open, constructive dialogue

Chisinau, 16 December /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister Pavel Filip participated today at the working session of the Congress of Local Authorities from Moldova (CALM), where were discussed the main problems faced by citizens at the local level and the actions to be taken to solve them, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The prime minister stressed the need to maintain an open dialogue between central and local government to ensure an efficient cooperation. "A very significant point in communication is to get off our barricades, because we are the ones who represent the state. I am very keen to have permanent cooperation because questions and issues are to be discussed at the time, when they occur," said Pavel Filip.
At the meeting, representatives of local public administration (APL) discussed the need to improve the process of distribution of funds from the Road Fund, harnessing financial resources for development projects localities, remuneration, and the importance of providing quality services to citizens. The proposals were related mostly to local autonomy, improving dialogue between local and central power and the decentralization of public administration.
In this context, the Head of Government stressed that economic development and addressing wage would be possible with the implementation of public administration reform, and the Government’ endeavour to find the most formula efficient for maintenance of local roads, and providing more leverage to local public administration (APL) representatives for management of problems in localities.
The head of cabinet urged local government officials to come up with initiatives, including improving the legal and regulatory framework in order to create more favourable conditions for the development of settlements. "It is very important to be partners. You have before you an absolutely open government. Also, together, we must find solutions to all problems that arise. It is essential that we go further on priority reforms, so as to change things in Moldova," concluded the prime minister.
