Chisinau, 24 January /MOLDPRES/ - A group of NATO experts provide assistance to Moldova’s authorities in working out a plan on implementing the National Defence Strategy (SNA) and Military Strategy (SM) of Moldova. The experts’ visit takes place on 23-27 January within the Defence Capacity Building Initiative.
According to a press release by the Defence Ministry, the NATO experts have planned meetings with members of the inter-institutional Working Group in charge of elaboration of the Plan on SNA’s Implementation. The Group is made up of representatives of the Supreme Security Council, government, central and local public authorities, civil society and academic environment with powers in the defence sector.
Also, the NATO experts will meet specialists competent with the working out SM, in order to analyze the document’s content, especially the chapters on the principles and concepts of the National Army’s use, as well as the security environment, threats and risks.
It is worth mentioning that the National Defence Strategy is a document of policies, which sets the way the state institution’s duties are fulfilled, in order to ensure the national defence. The document defines the strategic context of the security environment, provides a description of the present situation in the field, identifying the risks and threats to the defence and sets forth the strategic vision and goals of the defence policy, needed ways and resources to achieve them.
The Military Strategy represents the document concerning the development of the Armed Forces and makes an analysis of the security environment, military risks, military goals, necessary capabilities and priorities of their achievement, concepts of use of the Armed Forces, tasks of the force categories, structure of forces, their training and equipment, as well as the needed resources to implement the document’s objectives.
The two documents are carried out in line with the provisions of the Defence Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI), which Moldova joined at the NATO Summit in Wales in September 2014. The concerned initiative sees NATO providing assistance to analyze the present defence capacities of Moldova and identifying sectors which are to be developed.
