Moldova, Azerbaijan to boost bilateral ties

Chisinau, 30 January /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip had a meeting with Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Moldova Gudsi Dursun oglu Osmanov in Chisinau today. The officials discussed the progress made in the bilateral partnership and possibilities to boost the Moldovan-Azeri relations, including in order to increase investments in Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The PM appreciated the results achieved during the 25 years since the establishment of the Moldovan-Azeri diplomatic relations, stressing that the Moldovan authorities were opened for deepening the mutually advantageous cooperation. At the same time, the prime minister noted that possibilities to foster the bilateral dialogue had been discussed at a meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, held in Bishkek last autumn. “There are more reserves on the segment of the bilateral trade, which may allow us increase the commercial exchanges,” Pavel Filip stressed.
At the same time, the prime minister referred to the reforms launched by the government, stressing that their role was to improve the business environment and the living standards of Moldova’s citizens. “We will provide needed conditions for the investors to feel comfortably in Moldova; this will allow us developing the national economy, collecting more money to the state budget, and eventually launching more social projects,” the prime minister said.
For his part, the Azeri ambassador to Moldova said that, although his mandate had started as late as three months before, he managed to learn more about the country and was impressed by the Moldovans. The official also said that there is an Azeri Diaspora in Moldova, which is actively getting involved in the country’s social and political life. At the same time, the Azeri diplomat welcomed the reforms started by the government, highlighting that, during his mandate, he would take needed efforts to develop the bilateral ties.
The officials also exchanged opinions on the importance to revive the work of the inter-governmental commission for commercial and economic cooperation and possibilities to organize a forum with the participation of business people from the two countries.
