Moldovan radio, TV broadcasters to be obliged to broadcast at least 30 per cent of local content

Chisinau, 30 March /MOLDPRES/ - The radio and TV broadcasters will be obliged to broadcast at least 30 per cent of local content between 18:00 and 24:00, according to legislative amendments adopted by the parliament today.
In line with the amendments made to the Audiovisual Code, the Audiovisual Coordination Council will be obliged to select, once in five years following an international contest, a company for measuring the audience.
The goal of the project is to stimulate the Moldovan production, respectively, increase the number of jobs and the qualification in the media, establish clear-cut rules for the radio and TV broadcasters and exclude possibilities of abuse on behalf of the national regulatory authority in the audiovisual sector. Also, the expected objective is to set a mechanism due to allow to efficiently and correctly carry out audience measurements.
The draft was passed in the first reading in July 2016. It underwent an expert examination by OSCE and Council of Europe. The note for the draft is positive.
