PM encourages foreign investments in Moldova

Chisinau, 16 May /MOLDPRES/ – The opportunity to implement an important investment project in Moldova was examined during the meeting of Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Kaufland SRL management staff today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The company’s representatives informed that they were in Moldova over a year and managed to conclude collaboration contracts with more than 100 local suppliers and producers enlisted already for the Kaufland retail network in Romania with an export potential estimated at €15 million per year.

Similarly, the investor intends to expand his businesses in Moldova and to build 15 shops here. The project estimates at around €100 million and will create over 1000 jobs. The first three ones are scheduled to be open in 2018.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip encouraged the company’s management to make investments in Moldova, assuring the Government would do everything to support potential investors. "We want to increase the jobs number, increase the citizens’ well-being, and this can be done only with the help of international companies like you, starting important projects for the country’s economy. I want to encourage you to advance together in order to successfully realize this investment project," said the PM.

Further on, the head of the Cabinet referred to those steps undertaken to improve business environment, including: reducing institutions with control functions and reducing the number of permissive acts. Also, it is working hard on changing the labour legislation and making the foreigners’ access regime more efficient on the Moldovan labour market. "All these actions are aimed at encouraging investments in the Moldova’s economy and facilitating the business activity. I will request that the Kaufland project to be included in the list of international investment projects monitored by the Government so that the challenges that appear to be overcome quickly," said Pavel Filip.

The prime minister said that the Government would continue to make maximum efforts to stabilize and strengthen the banking sector, to combat and prevent corruption, being determined to implement the reforms that had started.

Kaufland is one of the largest retail companies in Germany and has over 1,000 shops in Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania.
