Moldovan government, United Nations Organization sign new cooperation programme for 2018-2022

Chisinau, 16 May /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip and United Nations Resident Coordinator, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Moldova Dafina Gercheva signed the UN Sustainable Development Assistance Framework in Moldova for 2018-2022 , at a meeting of the Coordination Committee of the United Nations – Moldova Partnership Framework, held at the government today.       

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the new programme, worth 155.5 million dollars, will contribute to carrying out the priorities of Moldova’s development in the following sectors: governance, human rights and gender equality; sustainable, inclusive and fair economic growth; sustainability and resilience of the environment; inclusive and fair social development.  

“The today’s event is a new occasion to highlight the role of the UN as lasting supporter of the reforms’ implementation and modernization of the country. This cooperation framework, for 2018-2022, will approach the present challenges in the development sector, will ensure the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and fits the government’s strategic priorities of development,” Prime Minister Pavel Filip said.

Through the assistance framework, the UN will focus on the strengthening of the good governance and enhancing the efficiency of the public institutions’ work. At the same time, the UN will cooperate with the Moldovan government, in order to improve the quality of services in the fields of education, health and social policies, create opportunities for decent jobs, as well as to improve the living standards of all the country’s citizens, especially of the vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.

“Representatives of the groups vulnerable to discrimination and infringement of human rights were widely consulted, to make sure that their prospects and needs are backed. At the same time, the new Assistance Framework is based on the experience gained from the earlier programme and deepens even more the cooperation between Moldova and the UN,” UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova Dafina Gercheva said.    

The assistance framework for 2018-2022 includes more than 15 United Nations resident and non-resident agencies, development funds and programmes. The United Nations Organization established its presence in Moldova through its specialized programmes and agencies, immediately after Moldova had joined the UN in 1992.
