Meal vouchers might be introduced in Moldova as of 2018

Chisinau, 17 May /MOLDPRES/ – The draft bill on meal vouchers was registered in Parliament today. The initiative stipulates the introduction of a significant salary supplement, which is not taxable and is a deductible cost for the employer, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Speaker Andrian Candu, the author of the project, told the media that the document was improved after the public debates held in Parliament, but also by international organizations.
The nominal value of a meal voucher is 45 lei, and it will be indexed annually. The vouchers for employee equals to the number of days worked in the previous month and are just for food. Please note that meal vouchers can only be used by the employee in person. Also, it is forbidden to exchange meal vouchers for money or to reduce the salary.
This initiative also covers the fight against wages in the envelope and tax evasion.
People will be able to buy food, go to restaurants, cafes or shops. This system has been operating since 1954 in many European countries, including Italy, France, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania.
The draft legislative initiative on meal vouchers was presented to business, trade unions representatives, employers’ organizations and state institutions concerned. The improvement proposals were taken into account before registering the project.
