Chisinau, 17 May /MOLDPRES/ – The financial support from the European Union, according to procedures, is decided following a three-side dialogue at the level of the European Council, European Commission and European Parliament. This trilogue will take place this early June. The meeting will come with a final decision, which will be voted in the European Parliament in July 2017, said Speaker Andrian Candu today, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
"The Council and Commission decision to grant money as a loan and a grant was adopted. There is no EU refusal to cooperate or finance Moldova. There are procedures to be consulted, including the Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Sorin Moise, the International Cooperation Committee’s member, responsible for this report," said Candu.
The speaker also added that all external financing has been made on the basis of conditions and commitments since 2016. "We know the conditions, we are committed to fulfilling them, and as our international partners know, if we assume to do something, we do!" said the speaker. In the context, he recalled the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank (WB) assessments after the April visit. "The IMF mission announced that Moldova fulfilled all commitments. Neither the IMF nor the WB are political institutions that give subjective appreciation. There were some exemplary fulfilled conditions," he said.
Candu denied information in press and misused by some opposition representatives claiming that Moldova would have been left without assistance from EU. "It is cynical and sordid that taking advantage of Dignity and Truth platform (DA) and Solidarity and Action Party’s (PAS) links with the European People’s Party (EPP) has attempted to delay the funding. It did not succeed. Just similar with the IMF when they had tried, but did not succeed. Let it be clear when some political leaders rub their hands that they will succeed, they “succeed” against the Moldova’s citizens", stated Candu.
A delegation of the members of the Committee of Association with EU, led by Andi Cristea, will visit Moldova next week.
We recall that EU macro-financial assistance to Moldova was proposed up to €100 million, €60 million in loans and €40 million in grants. It would complement the resources provided by the IMF and other multilateral institutions. The assistance would be aimed at supporting Moldova’s economic stabilization and structural reform agenda, contributing to its external financing needs over the next two years.
