Chisinau transport department's head transferred to home arrest

Chisinau, 24 May /MOLDPRES/ - Magistrates of the Buiucani district court of Chisinau today ruled to transfer the head of the public transport and communication ways of the Chisinau municipality, Igor Gamretchi, from isolation ward to home arrest.
The court decided that the official would spend the next 30 days in home arrest.
Igor Gamretchi was detained on 25 April in a corruption file on the selection of companies that were to deal with the arrangement of parkings against payment in the Moldovan capital. In the same file, six persons are prosecuted, among whom the deputy mayor of Chisinau, Nistor Grozavu, a former municipal councilor on behalf of the Liberal Democratic Party, Ghenadie Ivascenco, the managers of three parking companies, as well as a businessman, Alexandr Pincevski.
On 23 May, the same court ruled to extend the period of arrest for the deputy mayor of Chisinau, Nistor Grozavu, by another 30 days.
If found guilty, the persons detained run the risk of being sentenced to up to ten years of imprisonment, with deprivation of the right to hold certain offices or exercise a certain activity for a period from 10 to 15 years.
