Moldova to receive 4.8-million-dollar-worth grant for conservation agriculture on behalf of Japan

Chisinau, 24 May /MOLDPRES/ - A draft law on the ratification of an agreement on grant with Japan on the implementation of the project, Conservation Agriculture – Development of Sustainable System of Soils’ Management in Moldova, was approved at a today’s cabinet meeting, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The agreement sees allocation of non-refundable financing worth 4.8 million dollars for developing conservation agriculture in Moldova, in particular, for purchasing agricultural equipment.
The project will be managed by the present Implementation and Management Unit of the Project for Increasing Food Production – 2KR. The period of implementation is two years starting the date of the Agreement’s entrance into force.
The conservation agriculture is a priority of Moldova, provided for in the National Strategy of Agricultural and Rural Development for 2014-2020. The strategy sees development of a sustainable agriculture, adapted to climate changes, by applying practices which protect and improve the soil’s fertility.
