National transplant programme for 2017-2021 to be published in Official Journal of Moldova

Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/- The national transplant programme for 2017-2021 and an action plan on its implementation will be published in the Official Journal of Moldova on 26 May.

The programme aims at developing a successful transplantation system and providing citizens’ access to transplantation of organs, tissues or human cells.

Thus, the authorities intend to improve the quality of medical services by increasing the number of renal transplant operations by 60 per cent and by 45 per cent of liver transplantation compared to 2016. Also, among the goals in the document are increasing by 10 per cent in the number of tissue transplants, starting cardio-pulmonary transplantation, as well as expanding citizens’ information activities on this field.

At the same time, in order to increase the number of donors and extend the transplant coordination service, it is proposed to strengthen the capacity of the Transplant Agency, to set an Excellence Centre in the field, as well as to establish a national network for coordination of procurement of organs and tissues of human origin.

The program provisions are to be implemented by the medical-sanitary institutions in the health system, and financing the actions planned for 2017-2021 will be made from the state budget by about 420 million lei. The document is the second national transplant programme, the first one was carried out in 2012-2016.
