Chisinau, 29 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau municipal council (CMC) on 30 May might hold a meeting to consider possibility of appointing the Moldovan capital’s interim leadership, the head of the Chisinau city hall’s public relations department, Vadim Brinzaniuc, has said.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the deputy head of the Chisinau city hall’s legal relations department, Valeriu Bogdan, noted that, on 30 May, the municipal council members would appoint a secretary of the meeting, who will include this topic on the agenda. “This is an unprecedented situation and the law does not clearly stipulate what actions should be undertaken in such cases. There is room for interpretations; the mayor was detained, but he is not suspended from office; yet, he is in impossibility to fulfill his duties. For this reason, it is up to the council to take a decision on the appointment of a capital’s head,” Bogdan said.
The head of the Party of Socialists’ faction in CMC, Ion Ceban, told MOLDPRES that the Socialists’ jurists, as well as the representatives of the initiative group for the referendum on the dismissal of the general mayor would convene at a meeting today to decide on actions due to be undertaken at the tomorrow meeting. “They will discuss also a letter from the Finance Ministry submitted to the factions this morning,” Ceban added.
Today morning, the Finance Ministry sent an official letter to the Chisinau city hall’s finances department and the heads of the factions, in which it demands urgent nomination of a person empowered to sign and take decisions; otherwise, there is a risk for the local budget’s financial activity to be blocked.
The Moldovan capital remained without leadership, after, in late last week, general mayor Dorin Chirtoaca had been detained by the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA), being suspected of influence peddling. The Chisinau deputy mayor, Nistor Grozavu, as well as the secretary of the municipal council, Valeriu Didencu, are under arrest too.
