Moldovan, European officials broach reforms, cooperation

Chisinau, 30 May /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur today met Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland, who is on an official visit to Chisinau, following an invitation of the Moldovan government, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media relations service has reported.

The sides reconfirmed the importance of Moldova’s partnership with the Council of Europe, noting the organisation’s role in supporting the reforms initiated at national level and strengthening democratic institutions.

In this context, Galbur welcomed the expertise by CoE in various sectors, describing it as determining in the current efforts to advance internal reforms.

The European official highlighted the Council of Europe’s priority attention to reform on justice and fight against corruption.

Regarding the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, confidence-building measures of both banks of the Dniestre have been welcomed, including the focus on identifying solutions to ensure the functionality of Latin-script schools in the Transnistrian region.
