Council of Europe Action Plan for Moldova 2017-2020 launched in Chisinau

Chisinau, 30 May /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland, on an official visit to Chisinau, participated in an official launching ceremony of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Moldova for 2017-2020, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media relations service has reported.
The plan was previously adopted by the Delegations of the CoE Committee of Ministers and aims to support the implementation of reforms in priority areas such as combating corruption and money laundering, increasing the independence and efficiency of the judiciary system, combating ill-treatment and impunity, strengthening the press freedom and confidence measures between the two banks of the Dniestre.
The event was followed by a joint news conference with the participation of journalists and diplomatic staff accredited to Chisinau.
Galbur spoke about the importance of implementing the assistance projects, such as – promoting pluralism and media freedom or controlling corruption through law enforcement and prevention.
Also, the Moldovan official noted the need to further develop national capacities to manage the reform process, as well as prospects for strengthening democracy and human rights.
At the same time, European official pointed out that his institution was willing to back the projects aimed at consolidating justice and rule of law in Moldova.
