Chisinau, 30 May /MOLDPRES/ - The joint Moldovan-Ukrainian control will start at the border checkpoint Kuchurgan-Pervomaysk on 31 May, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The concerned project is backed by the European Union, including through the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine. The implementation of this project has become possible following the signing of a Moldovan-Ukrainian inter-governmental agreement on the joint control of persons, transport means and goods at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border checkpoints.

The joint control at the Kuchurgan-Pervomaysk border checkpoint will take place in two stages. At the first stage, scheduled for about six months, the employees of the Customs Service and Border Police of Moldova, along with the concerned Ukrainian structures will carry out joint control only over the operations of export of goods from the Transnistrian region. At the same time, employees of the Border Police will monitor the flows of transport and people, will register the foreign citizens entering and quitting the territory of Moldova and will provide pertinent information to interested persons on Moldova’s legislation in the migration field.

At the second stage, employees of the Customs Service and Border Police, along with the Ukrainian competent structures will carry out the control over the traffic of goods, both in export and import, as well as of the transport means and private persons. No restrictions and interdictions will be imposed to economic agents and private people from the Transnistrian region, which would change the present border crossing procedures. The vegetal and animal origin products could be taken out of the Transnistrian region based on the appropriate certificates issued by the phyto-sanitary and veterinary services in charge of the concerned states, without being subjected to needed control and without making payments.

The carrying out of the joint control at the border checkpoint Kuchurgan-Pervomaysk is aimed at facilitating the traffic of goods, transport means and private persons according to the principle “a single stop – a single desk,” in particular, by carrying out the customs procedures needed to realize operations of export and import of goods in the Transnistrian region, including of the excisable ones, considerable shortening of the time for customs control and of transport expenses, as well as through selective control of transport means and goods.
