Moldova's National Coordination Committee of Joint Global Programme holds meeting

Chisinau, 31 May /MOLDPRES/ – The meeting of the National Coordination Committee of the Joint Global Program "Integration of Migration in the National Development Strategies" took place on 30 May in Chisinau. The Program’s progress report for 01 August 2016 – 31 January 2017 was presented at the meeting, while the activities envisaged for the next period, being discussed proposals for amending the Work Plan for 2017.

The government’s communication and protocol department stated that, at the meeting start, Deputy Secretary General Valentin Guznac emphasized the extent of the migration phenomenon in Moldova, expressing gratitude to the development partners for their continued support for the promotion of migration policies. Similarly, Valentin Guznac noted that the Government aimed to systematically integrate migration into its development plans in order to maximize the positive effects of migration and minimize its negative impact on Moldova’s development.

Referring to Program’s implementation results, the Committee members  mentioned the elaboration of the Action Plan to support the return of Moldovan citizens from abroad and the strengthening of the capacities of the national focal points in the field of Diaspora, Migration and Development.

Also, discussions focused on actions needed to implement an efficient support mechanism in migration processes. For it, for 2017, it is proposed to involve local expertise to monitor the progress of integrating migration into national development strategies, to organize seminars to ensure the exchange of good practice on this segment, and to conduct training sessions for civil servants and Excellence groups in the Diaspora.

The Integration of Migration in National Development Strategies Program is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and implemented by the State Chancellery, with the support of the International Organization for Migration and the United Nations Development Program in Moldova (UNDPM).
