Moldovan servicemen under contract to be allowed to hold dual citizenship

Chisinau, 31 May /MOLDPRES/ – The citizens who own or have acquired the citizenship of another state may be employed in military service by contract. A decision in this regard was approved at the cabinet meeting today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
This right will also be enjoyed by those who have permanent legal residence on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and hold the citizenship of another state, as well as the students of the higher education institutions of military education.
The amendments to the Law on the Status of the Military Service men derive from the Decision № 3 of 31 January 2017 of the Constitutional Court, which found that the prohibition to hold the citizenship of a state other than the Republic of Moldova for contract troops and students of the higher education institutions was unconstitutional.
