Moldovan-Swiss relations to be improved to qualitatively new level of cooperation

Chisinau, 7 June /MOLDPRES/ - More projects in the sectors of health, energy, free trade and banking supervision are to be developed with the Swiss Confederation on the next period. Subjects to this effect were tackled at a today’s meeting between Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, President of the National Council of Switzerland Jurg Stahl and President of the Council of States from Switzerland Ivo Bischofberger.
According to the parliament’s communication and public relations, Andrian Candu, along with the parliamentary delegation, made up of MPs Artur Resetnicov and Sergiu Sirbu, discussed the opportunity to sign a free trade agreement between Moldova and Switzerland, as well as the launch of a direct airline between the two countries. The parliament speaker also asked for expertise and consultancy on behalf of Swiss colleagues, to strengthen the capacities of the Defrauded Assets Recovery Agency, recently set up by the parliament, as well as to improve norms of supervising and control for the National Bank of Moldova.
Also, Andrian Candu stressed that, in the context of the reforms underway in Moldova, the experience of Switzerland in representing all regions of the country, as well as the support of the local autonomy is quite valuable. The sides tackled also the topic of neutrality and security, especially in the present regional situation in the Eastern Europe.
The officials agreed to develop the bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation between specialized commissions and friendship groups. The friendship group in behalf of the Swiss Confederation will be led by the former chairwoman of the National Council from Switzerland.
The Moldovan parliament speaker on 6-8 June pays an official to the Swiss Confederation, accompanied by a parliamentary delegation.

The first visit to Moldova by the president of the National Council of Switzerland took place on 8-10 September 2016. He participated in a festive parliament meeting, dedicated to marking the 25th anniversary of Moldova’s independence.
This was the first official visit to Moldova at the level of parliament speaker, since the establishment of the Moldovan-Swiss diplomatic relations on 2 September 1992.
