Chisinau, 8 June /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today received Kiev-based Ambassador of South Korea to Moldova Lee Yang-goo, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The sides discussed priority actions, in the context of marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Moldovan-Korean diplomatic relations. In this respect, the officials expressed willingness to strengthen the political dialogue, as well as to advance the cooperation in the commercial and economic sectors, agriculture, information technologies and good governance.

The prime minister appreciated the positive answer of the Korean side on the change of Moldova’s embassy accredited for South Korea from Beijing to Tokyo. Pavel Filip conveyed also a congratulatory message to his Korean counterpart Lee Nak-yeon for his election as prime minister of Korea on 31 May this year.

The officials also discussed possibility to attract mutual investments and foster the trade and economic ties. Thus, the PM highlighted opportunities of investing in Moldova both on the agricultural dimension, as South Korea is one of the target markets for Moldova’s vine growing and wine-making sectors, and in the IT field. “I want to draw your attention to the law on virtual IT Parks, which provide huge possibility for investors. We have an excellent infrastructure to be able to serve local companies, as well as international ones. We have a special and convenient fiscal regime, and the parks’ virtuality allows their distance management,” Pavel Filip said. At the same time, the prime minister emphasized the Korean side’s contribution to the working out of the Digital Moldova 2020 strategy, reiterating willingness to take over Korean experience as to cyber security.

Touching upon the dimension of bilateral relation, the prime minister reiterated the condemnation of the launch of missiles, carried out by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, which represents a violation of more resolutions by the UN Security Council. “Moldova fully shares the deep concerns of South Korea’s government and the international community about these actions with destabilizing effect on the security situation on the Korean peninsula,” Pavel Filip said.

For his part, Ambassador Lee Yang-goo repeatedly thanked the Moldovan government for backing the Korean side as to problems from the Korean peninsula. At the same time, the diplomat referred to possibilities of developing the commercial and economic cooperation. “I want to highlight the useful and valuable contribution the government of Moldova has managed to accomplish in the development of Free Economic Zones. This success for the country’s economy is completed by the human resources potential, as well as a dynamic development of the IT sector,” the Korean official said.

The ambassador of Korea made an invitation to the prime minister and Moldovan agricultural producers to a holiday of gathering the harvest, organized on 26 June by a Korean company producing onion seeds, active on the Moldovan market for more than five years. On this occasion, the head of the Agricultural Group from South Korea will pay a visit to Moldova.

In the end, the sides reiterated mutual openness, speaking out for boosting the Moldovan-Korean bilateral relations.
