Sweden to continue providing Moldova with assistance

Chisinau, 8 June /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur, in the context of his official visit to Stockholm, today had a meeting with Deputy Director General of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) Marie Ottosson, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.     

Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Galbur highly appreciated SIDA’a work in Moldova and thanked for the technical assistance provided to Moldova in fields of strategic importance, such as consolidation of democracy, protection of human rights, gender equality, market development and improvement of the investment climate, IT, etc.

Also, the sides welcomed the starting of negotiations on a new Agreement between the governments of Moldova and Sweden on the general framework and conditions for cooperation. The officials voiced hope that the document would be signed in the near future.

For his part, Marie Ottosson gave assurances that Moldova would further remain in the list of priority state for assistance on behalf of SIDA.  

The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency is a governmental agency at the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Sweden, with offices in about 50 countries, including Moldova. The general goal of the cooperation for development between Sweden and Moldova is the political association and economic integration of Moldova into the European Union. The Swedish support comprises three sectors: democracy, human rights and gender equality; sustainable infrastructure and environmental protection; development of market economy.
