Chisinau to first ever host Moldova Automotive 2017 forum

Chisinau, 12 June /MOLDPRES/ – The Moldova Automotive Days 2017 Forum will be held for the first time in Chisinau on 13-14 June. The event will be attended by 45 investors from Germany, Japan, Italy, Austria, USA, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine and 72 local companies as well. Deputy Prime Minister Octavian Calmic, Economy Minister referred on it in a press conference today.
"In the recent five years we have seen a significant increase in the automotive sector. If in 2012 the volume of auto parts exports amounted to €137 million, in 2016 we reached the amount of over €356 million and a share of over 20 per cent of Moldova’s total exports," said Octavian Calmic.
The Economy Minister also said that in recent years there has been a significant increase in new jobs in this sector. So, if there were 5100 workers in 2012, over 10,000 people are employed in 2017, and this figure will double over the next two years. "By organizing this event, the Economy Ministry and the Organization for the Attraction of Investments and Promotion of Exports (MIEPO) send a clear message to public opinion, development partners, companies and economic agents working in this field that thanks to the Government’s efforts, Moldova re-emerges, becoming more competitive both on the regional and international markets," said Deputy Prime Minister Calmic.
At his part, MIEPO executive director, Vitalie Zaharia, specified that during the two days the Forum participants would be informed how to enter into partnerships with the most important German branch companies and how they could become suppliers of the world component manufacturer for MAGNA cars. During the same period, a career fair will be organized for the graduates of the engineering faculties, where they are to present their job offers for over 15 Moldovan automotive companies, informed the cited source.
Till present, 15 leading companies from Germany, USA, Japan, Austria and Italy have invested in the automotive sector in Moldova. They produce components and software for millions of BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Ford, Nissan, Volvo, Skoda cars, providing upholstery for up to 700 thousand motor-cars per year.
The Moldova Automotive Days 2017 Forum is organized by the Ministry of Economy and MIEPO in partnership with the German Agency for Development and the European Business Association.
