MPs to take into account recommendations by Venice Commission on amendment of electoral system

Chisinau, 13 June /MOLDPRES/- MPs will take into account the recommendations by the Venice Commission on amendment of the electoral system and later amendments to the draft law will be made in order to meet international standards. The leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Vlad Plahotniuc, made the statement today.
Plahotniuc said “as soon as we receive this expertise, we will analyze it and will begin to make all necessary changes in the project as it meets all international standards. We have an increased interest in this analysis, as even at our initiative, the draft law was sent for expertise”.
On 5 May, the parliament adopted in the first reading two draft amendments to the electoral system – PDM proposal on uninominal vote and the one of the Party of Socialists on mixed vote. After consultations, the legal commission on rules and immunities decided to merge projects for the second reading.
