Working group for Moldovan mass-media legislation's improvement establishes guidelines

Chisinau, 13 June /MOLDPRES/ – The Working Group on Improvement of Media Legislation, set up on the Speaker’s initiative, convened in its first session. Andrian Candu, chair of the Working Group, pointed on the importance of cooperation between broadcasters, experts, NGOs, MPs, CCA and the Government to adjust local standards to European ones, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
During the meeting the Working Group's priorities were set, including the elaboration of a new Audiovisual Code and the Country Security Strategy. The Working Group also aims to improve the legislation on publicity and access to information, the elaboration of a new press law, the identification of legal solutions for the provision of tax incentives for domestic media production.
Andrian Candu stressed that in the next two weeks, the members of the Working Group would present proposals to improve media legislation, including the projects that had been worked on, previously.
At her part, Roberta Battista, co-chair of the working group, project coordinator, media direction, the Council of Europe, encouraged the members of the Working Group to make feasible decisions for an informational environment that supports pluralism of opinions and freedom of expression. The official said that the aim of the Council of Europe was to adopt a new Audiovisual Code within 2017.
The head of the Parliamentary Committee on culture, education, research, youth, sports and mass media Vladimir Hotineanu said that a series of media laws were obsolete, some of them since 1994, and it was needed to set new ones, corresponding to the requirements of time.
The Working Group on Improvement of Media Legislation is composed of broadcasters, representatives of relevant NGOs as well as CoE, EU Delegation, NATO IDC, BCC, Government and Parliament. The OSCE, the Embassy of Sweden, the US Embassy, the Soros Foundation, UNDP’s representatives are present with a special status.
