Economics minister says merger of two energy distribution networks to lead to decrease in tariffs paid in north Moldova

Chisinau, 15 June /MOLDPRES/ - We want not only to diminish operational or other kinds of costs by the merger of the Energy Distribution Network Nord (RED Nord) and RED Nord-Vest, but especially to reduce the tariff for end consumers, Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic has said at a meeting with the staff of RED Nord Branch from Rezina.    

According to the minister, the merger of the two companies is provided for in the authorities’ programme on reformation and modernization of the energy sector, supplying citizens with quality services. In the context, Octavian Calmic referred to the cabinet’s actions to enhance Moldova’s energy security, including by implementation of projects on interconnection with the EU system through Romania, carrying out of projects on developing infrastructure in the energy sector.  

The economics minister appreciated the actions of the RED Nord Branch from Rezina on the period of the last April natural calamities, when decision makers in just hours managed to re-establish the supply with electric energy in settlements of the three districts served by this enterprise. Referring to projects on developing infrastructure in settlements, Octavian Calmic demanded that the “streets’ illumination,” based on advanced technologies, be included as one of the priorities in these projects.      

The RED Nord Enterprise provides with electric energy over 295,000 consumers, of whom 286,800 are household consumers. At the same time, RED Nord-Vest has 180,000 clients, of whom about 10,000 economic agents.
