Moldovan deputy premier attends commemoration of bloody battles on Varnita-Tighina plateau

Chisinau, 19 June /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan today participated in a meeting for commemorating the tragic events, which took place 25 years ago and resulted in the sacrifice of volunteers of the Varnita village, to defend the independence and territorial integrity of Moldova, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.
The event was organized at the monument of heroes from the Varnita village, eastern Anenii Noi district.
Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan said that the residents of Varnita, on the plateau of which one of the fieriest battles took place, had been at the basis of Moldova’s independence, as they defended the latter by the sacrifice of the nation’s best sons. It is worth appreciating the bravery, courage and patriotism of the policemen, servicemen and volunteers, who defended the children families, settlements from the banks of Dniester and the entire country.
At a meeting with the residents of Varnita, the deputy prime minister discussed daily problems of the residents from the Security Zone. Balan noted that the government makes increased efforts to identify a viable and lasting solution to the Transnistrian conflict, by observing Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and the foremost interests of the residents from both banks of Dniester.
