UN Population Fund to approve new country programme for Moldova

Chisinau, 20 June /MOLDPRES/ – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Lilian Darii met today with Alanna Armitage, Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), being on a documentary visit to Moldova, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.
During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the draft of the new country program for Moldova 2018-2022, following to be approved by the UNFPA Executive Board in September. Deputy Minister Darii stressed that that document would make an essential contribution to the implementation of national strategies and documents in the field of population development and the realization of the commitments undertaken by Moldova, including the Sustainable Development Goals.
In this context, Deputy Minister Darii thanked the UN official for the support provided over the years and assured that the Moldovan authorities would continue to cooperate with UNFPA in order to advance projects of mutual interest.
At her turn, Regional Director Alanna Armitage appreciated the cooperation between the UNFPA country team and national authorities, expressing her support for the agenda of the Government of Moldova related to population and as to reach the objectives of Agenda 2030.
The new draft of the country program will be examined by the UNDP/ UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board in September 2017. The amount of assistance planned under this cycle is $3 million, of which $2 million will be allocated from UNFPA core resources, and $1 million will be raised by co-financing from other donors.
