Partnership between Moldova, Diaspora to be strengthened

Chisinau, 21 June /MOLDPRES/ – The General Secretary of the Government, Lilia Palii, and the head of mission of the International Organization for Migration (OIM) in Moldova, Antonio Polosa, signed the Agreement on the implementation of the project “Strengthening the development capacities of Moldova through the dialogue of Diaspora with the country of origin” today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The project’s overall objective is to capitalize the migration positive impact upon the socio-economic development of the state through Diaspora involvement due to an improved and systemic framework of Diaspora partnerships with the country of origin and the reinforced support of innovative initiatives that aim to maintain national identity and culture relations of Diaspora communities in the process of formation.
The Agreement’s main purpose is to support the Diaspora educational centres’ activities for preservation of national, cultural and linguistic identities, as well as to attract high-skilled professionals from Diaspora to the Excellency Groups that will contribute to the development of Moldova by sharing knowledge acquired abroad.
The project also aims to increase the government’s capacity to interact and support Diaspora initiatives through transparent, progressive and inclusive actions.
The project beneficiaries are national and local public institutions with Diaspora mandate, Moldovan Diaspora/migrants associations and interested professional groups.
The project is funded by the International Development Fund of OIM, constituting $200,000. There already opened ten educational centres for the children of Diaspora outside Moldova, operating successfully in seven countries, within the framework of this Agreement.
