Terrorist activity to be punished

Chisinau, 23 June /MOLDPRES/- Citizens of Moldova who practice or are involved in acts of terrorism both in the country and abroad run the risk of criminal penalties. MPs today operated amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code.

Recruiting, training, benefitting from training or other support for terrorist purpose shall be punished by imprisonment from 4 to 8 years, deprived of the right to hold certain positions or activities for a period of three to five years.

Also, citizens, who will travel abroad for terrorist purposes to plan, prepare, commit or participate in terrorist offenses or to train terrorists, run the risk of punishment from 3 to 7 years.

The draft amendment to the Criminal Procedure Code was elaborated by the Intelligence and Security Service to fulfill the obligations deriving from signing on 21 March 2016 of the additional protocol to the Council of Europe Convention on prevention of terrorism.
