Moldovan central forestry authority warns about danger of forest fire triggered by heat

Chisinau, 26 June /MOLDPRES/ - Given the announcement of the Yellow Code of heat, the Moldsilva Agency today warned about an exceptional danger of five-degree fires with natural character and threat of fire in forest belts and agricultural crops, which might be extended on a big part of Moldova’s territory.
“Following the warming of the weather, there is the risk of breaking out of fires in the forest fund. On the period of heat, the country’s forest enterprises will enhance the guard of the forest sectors managed, according to the regulation on anti-fire security,” a press release by the Agency reads.
At the same time, the agency’s specialists noted that most fires recorded in the forest fund on the territory of Moldova are triggered either by the negligence or the inattention of people, who do not observe the anti-fire norms, especially in the droughty periods.
In this context, the Moldsilva Agency warns the residents not to set fire to stubble fields, as well as the layer of dry grass nearby forests and forest crops planted on degraded lands. At the same time, the persons who plan leisure activities during drought in forests, must opt for specially arranged places, including from the viewpoint of anti-fire safety.
In conformity with Article 84 of the Forest Code, the destruction and harming of forests as a result of setting fire or negligent use of fire, violation of anti-fire rules and sanitary rules in forests are regarded as contraventions. Private people and legal entities guilty of these infringements will be called to account.
The State Hydrometeorological Service issued a Yellow Code of heat and exceptional danger of fire for 25 June – 1 July. According to weather forecasters, on this period, the air temperature will reach 33 Celsius degree and higher in most regions of Moldova.
