Chisinau, 27 June /MOLDPRES/ – The anticorruption prosecutors conduct searches in the office of the magistrate of Chisinau Court, Oleg Melniciuc, in an initiated case for unlawful enrichment.
The information was confirmed for the agency by the General Prosecutor, Eduard Harunjen, who today requested the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) the agreement to conduct investigative actions regarding Melniciuc.
“In the case of illicit enrichment there is no need for the CSM’s consent for the prosecution, but only for some investigative actions. CSM has authorized searches. It is premature to speak on the subject of the magistrate’s detention, as it will happen depending on the identified evidences,” said Harunjen.
Oleg Melniciuc is the first magistrate to be prosecuted under Art. 330, pas. 2, par. 2 of the Criminal Code “Illicit enrichment”.
If found guilty, Melniciuc may face a fine of up to MDL 500 thousand (around €25,000) or from seven to fifteen years of imprisonment, depriving him the right to occupy certain positions or practice certain activities for 10 – 15 years.
