Delegation of Moldova participates in EUBAM meeting in Odessa

Chisinau, 27 June /MOLDPRES/ - The 28th meeting of the Advisory Board of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) was held in Odessa, Ukraine, today, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication has reported.
The event was led by Head of the European Union Delegation in Moldova, Ambassador Pirkka Tapiola. The national delegations of Moldova and Ukraine were led by Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Daniela Morari and, respectively, Deputy Director General of the General Department for European Union at the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine, Serhiy Sayenko. Representatives of the Border Police Department, Customs Service, Bureau for Reintegration and the competent institutions from Ukraine were included on delegations. Attending the meeting were also representatives of international partner organizations of EUBAM: OSCE and International Organization for Migration.
Participants in the 28th meeting of the Advisory Board unveiled a report on the implementation of the Action Plan of the EU Border Assistance Mission for 2016-2017 (phase 11), progress made in establishing the joint control, adoption of reforms in the customs sector, by working out a new Customs Code in Moldova, institutionalization of the controls based on analyzing risks, enforcement of the obligations of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area in Moldova and Ukraine, etc.
As for the extension of EUBAM’s mandate after 30 November 2017, the sides established the main goals of the Mission’s activity: contribution to the Transnistrian conflict settlement, especially by means of confidence building measures; full implementation of the policy of Integrated Border Management and providing assistance to fight the cross-border crime.
In the context, the head of the Moldovan delegation, Daniela Morari, highly appreciated EUBAM’s work and, in particular, its contribution to the carrying out by Moldova of the Association Agreement’s provisions.
The participants agreed that the next meeting of the Advisory Board be held in Chisinau in November 2017.
