Chisinau municipal council's secretary suspended from office

Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) today approved the suspension from office of CMC secretary Valeriu Didencu.
Also today, three candidatures were proposed for the vacant position: Vadim Brinzaniuc, Ludmila Cutasevici and Tudor Tofan.
For lack of consensus, with the vote of 18 councilors of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), the today’s CMC meeting was postponed for 4 July, 10:00. The participants in this meeting are to consider subjects included on the agenda, as well as the candidacies for the position of CMC secretary. Also, the participants in the next CMC meeting will discuss a proposal by Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca to appoint the former environment minister, Valeriu Munteanu and the head of the health department at the Chisinau city hall, Mihai Moldovanu, to the posts of deputy mayors.
On 23 June 2017, anticorruption prosecutors sent to court the file of Valeriu Didencu. He is accused of the fact that, during February – May 2017, he would have repeatedly claimed sums of money and goods from representatives of economic agents and some municipal councilors for various services. The accused person reached an agreement with prosecutors on recognition of the guilt.
If found guilty, Valeriu Didencu runs the risk of being sentenced to 3-7 years of imprisonment, with a fine up to 300,000 lei and deprivation of right to hold certain public offices or exercise a certain activity during a term from five to ten years.
