Chisinau, 30 June /MOLDPRES/ - The extraordinary meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) today was postponed for lack of quorum.
Only 15 councilors of the Liberal Party (PL) came to the meeting. For the CMC meeting to be deliberative, the presence of at least 26 councilors out of the total of 51 ones is necessary.
Today, the municipal councilors were to discuss a proposal by Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca to nominate to the offices of deputy mayor the former environment minister, Valeriu Munteanu and the head of the Chisinau city hall’s health department, Mihai Moldovanu. Also today, a new interim CMC secretary was to be elected to office, with three candidacies put up for this position: Vadim Brinzaniuc, Ludmila Cutasevici and Tudor Tofan.
The head of the PL faction at CMC, Ion Cebanu, said that the Liberals were expecting such actions on behalf of the other councilors. ‘We will have more questions to Socialists, who accused us of blocking the CMC’s work; now, because of whom the Council’s meeting does not take place? What we see today is full lack of respect for the citizens, especially as extremely important subjects were included on the agenda,” Cebanu said.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, a member of the Socialists’ faction in CMC, Stanislav Vartanian, said that the Socialists did not come to the today’s meeting, as the candidatures put forward for the offices of deputy mayor and CMC secretary had not been discussed with the councilors. “We have earlier spoken with Mr. Grozavu and we agreed on nominating to the office of CMC secretary a person working at the city hall, but who is politically unaffiliated; nevertheless, yesterday, we saw that three candidates affiliated to PL were put forward. At the same time, we expect comprehensive discussions on the subject dealing with the appointment of the new deputy mayors,” Vartanian said.
On 29 June, for the lack of consensus, with the votes of 18 Socialist councilors, the CMC meeting was adjourned for Tuesday, 4 July. At this meeting, the subjects included on the today’s agenda, as well as the candidacies for the post of secretary and deputy mayors of CMC are to be considered.
