Over 40 Moldovan settlements disconnected from power supply because of bad weather

Chisinau, 30 June /MOLDPRES/ - Over 40 settlements have been partially of fully disconnected from power supply in the wake of the thunderstorm from 29 June evening, Gaz Natural Fenosa has reported.
According to the press service of the Gas Natural Fenosa company, the bad weather seriously hit the electricity networks, causing numerous defections which led to the disconnected of power supply to consumers. Thus, the worst hit districts were Calarasi – 14 settlements, Telenesti- 14 settlements, Leova – five settlements and Orhei – four settlements. At the same time, broken conductors in overhead power lines pose a big danger, with 145 notifications recorded to this effect. Eighty five teams were mobilized to carry out operative works on the spot.
At the same time, today morning, the press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service, Liliana Puscasu, said that the 29 June evening thunderstorm had damaged roofs and knocked down trees in more settlements of Moldova. “Trees fell on house roofs in the northern Briceni town. The wind hit two warehouses and a kindergarten in the Bulboaca settlement, Briceni district. At the same time, the roofs of two blocks of flats were partially damaged in the Lipcani town, Briceni district, and two trees destroyed the roofs of two houses,” Puscasu said.
The thunderstorm hit the Balti municipality and settlements from the districts of Rezina, Falesti and Ungheni, where more trees fell down and rescuers intervened for de-blocking. “The commissions for emergency situations assess the sum of the damages recorded,” Puscasu noted.
The State Hydrometeorological Service has earlier issued Yellow Code of heat and exceptional danger of fire. The warning is valid till 1 July. At the same time, meteorologists forecast thunderstorm rain all over Moldova for the days to come.
