Chisinau, 04 July /MOLDPRES/ – The members of the Integrity Council called on the Parliament, the Government and the Ministry of Justice to make changes to legislation to unblock the procedure for electing the National Integrity Authority (ANI), stopped after the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) refused to communicate if candidates in these positions had collaborated with the secret services or not.
At the meeting yesterday, the members of the Integrity Council questioned the SIS response that was supposed to provide information if the ANI leaders were co-operative or undercover intelligence agencies, including informants of these services by 1991.
According to the SIS decision, even if the candidates for the leadership of ANI agreed that the information about their activity be made public, this is not possible because the declassification is done only in the cases stipulated by the law, and in this situation the SIS is legally incapable of the following request of the Integrity Council of the National Integrity Authority.
In order to unblock the contest procedure, the members of the Integrity Council will announce the Parliament, the Government and the Ministry of Justice about the legislative shortcomings in the procedure for the competition for the positions of the ANI chairman and vice-chairman and will request to adopt as a priority amendments to the legislation in order to be able to unlock the competition procedure.
